Merv Bailey lives and works on the Central Coast of New South Wales, after moving to Australia from
New Zealand in 1975.
Having started his working career as a chef, Merv started working with timber fulltime in 1997 after an illness helped to persuade him that a change in lifestyle was required. He is a self-taught woodturner/carver.
Using only Australian native timbers, the majority of Merv’s works are made from burls, a growth that develops on some trees, particularly Australian Eucalypts. He also uses the native Banksia to make items such as vases, fragrance pots, key rings, etc.
Merv’s products, including burl bowls and Banksia items, are sold in shops and galleries in Sydney, Canberra and Queensland and have been purchased by locals and overseas visitors, as gifts for people all over the world.
